My Blogging Routine 2019

Blogging Routines are a great thing to have, especially when you are looking to increase productivity. My routine has helped me out a ton. I have been asked by many friends and family what a typical week of blogging looks like and I figured, that would make a great blog post, so here it is My 2019 Blogging Routine.

01. Wake Up

First I wake up and I start my hair, skin and hygiene morning routines. Afterwards, I make my way into the kitchen and I drink a cup of iced chai tea; with the occasional shot of vanilla.

02. Gather Supplies

When I blog I keep a few items near and dear to me within the vicinity.
That list consists of the following:
  • Laptop
  • Surface Pro
  • Pens & Pencils
  • Fineliners
  • Notepad
  • Printer
  • Loose Leaf Paper Blank, Lined and Grid
  • Highlighters
  • Stickers
  • Sticky Notes
  • Planner (General)
  • Blogging Binder
  • Phone
  • Chargers
  • Lamp
  • Essential Oil Diffuser

Though my list may seem like a lot, it makes it easier for me to function as a blogger. I have been blogging since 2012. I have also been a freelancer for the past 4 years and I can tell you that working in an area where you have all your necessities and little to no reason to get up, then you are setting yourself up for maximum productivity. 03.  List of Blog Posts

I am a wave of ideas and creativity, however, there are days when the creative juices slow down to a trickle and I struggle to get going, this is when I turn to my running list of blog posts, this list is both typed and printed. I use it as a reference and a guide for ideas. Sometimes I pull directly from the list, other times I bounce ideas off of the list. Regardless, I use it.

It is my advice that everyone has a list of at least 50 prompts relevant to your niche to use as ideas for your writing projects. Though the initial brainstorming may seem tedious, it will begin to pay for itself the more it is used.

04. How I Brainstorm a Blog Post

Now that I know the topic of my next article, I begin to brainstorm ideas on what to write and how to write it. This time is also where I do my initial research.

Currently, I am alternating between how I brainstorm. I am trying to find out what works best for me. For the time being it is mind mapping. I use this technique to connect my ideas and make sure that everything is on track and relative to one another.

Other brainstorming methods that I am trying out are

  • Right Braining | Doodling incomplete images (leaving out portions of the images) and then adding them together.
  • Break and Build | Take a topic and break it down or build on top of it.
  • Pessimist and Optimist | Image 2 ppl having a conversation, one is pessimistic and the other is an optimist. Ask a question starting with "how about" then bounce answers off one another. Negative answer and a Positive one, build off of them until you have come to the answer you need.

05. Outline | How I Write a Blog Post Outline

My outlining technique is about the same as outlining for a textbook, at least for my blog it is. When I outline it tends to look follow this structure

"Captivating Title"

I. Introduction Paragraph

     a. Hook

A. Main Idea #1

      a. Point #1
            1. Minor Point
            2. Minor Point

      b. Point #2
            1. Minor Point
            2. Minor Point

      b. Point #3
            1. Minor Point
            2. Minor Point

B. Main Idea #2

      b. Point #1
            1. Minor Point
            2. Minor Point

      b. Point #2
            1. Minor Point
            2. Minor Point

      b. Point #3
            1. Minor Point
            2. Minor Point

C. Main Idea #3

      a. Point #1
            1. Minor Point
            2. Minor Point

      b. Point #2
            1. Minor Point
            2. Minor Point

      c. Point #3
            1. Minor Point
            2. Minor Point

II. Conclusion

      a. Restate "Hook"
      b. Summary
      c. How to make actionable

With this structure, you can add more or less of the Main Ideas, I always try to have at least three main ideas and two minor points about each.

A. Main Idea #1
      a. Point #1
            1. Minor Point
            2. Minor Point

When I am Writing the Structure goes from
Then, of course, I throw in a closing sentence just before I jump to the next paragraph.

06. Write the Blog Post, Review it, and Revise it

Now that I have the planning and the brainstorming and outline out of the way it's all about writing the first draft of the blog post, reviewing and revising it. In these steps, I take breaks and do other things like start a new blog post if I am batch working or clean the house if it needs some TLC.
